HOW FRUSTRATING!!!

22/09/2007 Stockport 1s v Bolton 2s 3-3

Firstly I would like to congratulate Chloe on getting Player of the Match, it was well deserved even with a knock to the head by the ball, and she still played on and gave it 110%.

The game was very evenly matched from the start; Stockport had most of the play in the first 10 minutes with fantastic passing between the forwards Sam, Lisa H, Clare and Jenny switching the play side to side, which ended up with Clare finding the back of the net. 1-0 Stockport

With Bolton attacking hard, Lucy just seemed to have exchanged her stick with a magnet as every ball that came through was on the end of it. Lucy found it easy clearing the ball up the field leaving the defenders with nothing to do but mark players. Unfortunately Bolton broke the wall of defence and scored evening it up 1-1 with a lucky shot but Stockport, as always, held their heads high.

It was nearly half time and Bean (Charlie) had the job of marking Bolton’s tallest and most physical player she did really well seen as though she was half her size! Our keeper Angela had a great half with 4 defensive short corners in a row saved and cleared. Stockport attacked hard again with Nicola and Amy on the wing playing some great hockey with the ball being passed to Clare with her second shot of the game and again found the back of the net putting us back on top! 2-1 Stockport

Stockport’s First team are made up of mostly attackers and midfielders and as the second half started we unfortunately suffered an injury in defence with no one to replace our well played Captain Louise, she had to go off leaving the defence down a player. Lisa D subbed back on to cover the Right Back, Chloe moved in to the middle of the field and Lucy (yes Lucy) dropped to Centre Defence. Bolton also suffered an injury when a hit out from Gemma flew straight in to their best player’s ankle; at least it gave Bean (Charlie) a well deserved break. Oops!!

They repaid us by equalising 2-2. Ouch!

If you have every played with Jenny W you will notice she doesn’t wait for the ball to come to her, she will go and find it so throughout the game she made some great moves up the pitch past numerous players then with help from Amy and Sam, they managed to get a free hit outside the ‘D’. Amy sent a quick ball towards the net and Nicola got a cheeky deflection on the ball making it 3-2 Stockport!

In the last 5 minutes of the game Bolton stepped up there game with most of Stockport defending Keeper Angela was saving shots on goals from every angle with Angela and Gemma trying to defend off the line they unfortunately couldn’t save a scrambled goal that found its way over the line making the final score a 3-3 draw.

Everyone had a fantastic game -even though it was such a frustrating second match- I have to say overall Stockport 1st‘s are looking a strong and confident side.

Well Done Stockport.
