| 22/09/2007 | Stockport 5s v Bolton 3 | 1-3 |
The 5th team travelled to Bolton for their first game of the season and after battling with traffic and missed buses the team arrived and the game got underway. Stockport started the game very strong with Michelle Morgan providing strength up front taking Bolton a little by surprise. Bolton came back strong and put the Stockport defence under constant pressure. Stockport's defence was a little bit of a family affair with mum Andrea Getcheffsky in goal, daughter Natasha Getcheffsky as sweeper and aunty (Alison Turner) right back. Along with veteran player Barbara Bailey playing left back they managed to break down Bolton's attack preventing Bolton from finding that all important goal. Most of the play was in the Stockport half but when Michelle Morgan was played a long ball she made a solo run and finished with a successful shot on goal. Sally McRoberts and Rachel Owens had to work hard in midfield and make well timed tackles and helped close down play to enable Stockport to hold onto their lead and at half time were pleased with the score 1-0 (if only it was full time rather than half time!).
After a strong half time talk Bolton came back into the game very strong and quickly evened up the score with a great shot from the top of the D taking Janet Woodhead by surprise as she stood on the line and the ball hit her stick - a first goal for Janet shame it was at the wrong end of the pitch! Bolton's 2nd goal was quick to follow on one of the few occasions Stockport didn't manage to clear the ball successfully and a scramble in the D followed with Bolton breaking through and scoring 2-1. Abi Dunkerley played a one-two with Michelle Morgan and Michelle broke through the Bolton defence again but couldn't quite manage a repeat of her first half goal as she sent the ball wide.
A number of shots at Stockport's goal followed and were saved high, low, fast, slow and then by a defenders foot giving Bolton a short corner. They played it short and their first shot was saved but the mis-kick fell to another Bolton player who read the defence perfectly and placed the ball just out of reach of the Stockport players. 3-1. In the final minute of the game Bolton was awarded another short corner and as the final whistle was blown they brought all their players forward. Stockport were determined not to let the deficit get any worse and it was left to goalkeeper Andrea Getcheffsky to kick the ball wide which made the final score Bolton 3 - Stockport 1. Well done to Stockport's new young players Rachel Owens, Sally McRoberts and Abi Dunkerley who all had a fantastic first game and all showed potential for the future
Player of the match Michelle Morgan.
