| 29/09/2007 | Stockport 1s v Saddleworth 2s | 2-1 |
The match started with Stockport Defending from the off, with
Angela having to save a number of shots on target. Stockport soon
picked up there game with most of the play being in our possession,
the half’s were having to do a lot of work. Bean (Charlie) made some
great play on the right throughout the whole game and don’t think we
heard her laugh or giggle once. She was passing the ball to Sam and
Clare who were making runs towards the back line. Amy on the left
(who was being man marked) picked up all the long crosses then she
hit the ball across the goal straight to Sam who effortlessly put
the ball in the back of the net. 1-0 Stockport J
Our centre duo Jenny and Lucy were making some fantastic runs and
sending some long passes to Clare and Lisa H which left it hard for
Saddleworth to defend. Jenny unfortunately kept being tackled which
ending up with her losing the ball. When trying to regain
possession, she found herself with a green card. The Referee, who
wasn’t going to stand for anything, didn’t like the challenges she
put in.
Before half time the second goal came from Sam with the ball being
passed from Louise on a hit out to Nicola who made a great run up
the pitch. She passed the ball to Jenny whose reverse shot was
saved but Sam was there to make sure it did hit the backboard. 2-0
Stockport ☺
Second half and Saddleworth attacked. Their middle player kept
sending balls wide making it difficult for Lisa D, Louise and Gemma
to pick up. All the players had to track their players running down
the wings with the ball. Lisa D intercepted their crosses every time
leaving Saddleworth frustrated that they couldn’t break our defence.
Eventually Saddleworth got a short corner. Bean enjoyed running a
little too much today and after a warning from the referee about
being too quick off the mark, she did it again, out came the green
card oops. Angela was having a wicked game and managed to save
all Saddleworths shots on goal.
Stockport used Lucy as a defensive half which sent Jenny off on long
runs up the pitch who in turn used Lisa H who just couldn’t find the
back of the net however hard she tried. Clare also was getting
around there defence but couldn’t find the back of the net, it
should have been 5-0 with the great shots they were making!!
Saddleworth once again attacked with Lisa D doing as much as she
could to get the ball out of the ‘D’. They eventually got a
shot on goal which went straight through our keeper Angela; luckily
Gemma was there to save it off the line.
Full time was in sight and Stockport was quite happy with a 2-0 win,
however Saddleworth had a break on the left-hand side. Nicola, who
was doing some great channelling, had a stumble with one of their
players giving them a free hit outside the ‘D’. The ball was crossed
in where their unmarked wing player swept the ball straight in to
the top left hand corner. I consider that a consolation.
The final score which was well deserved was a 2-1 victory to
Stockport – Well Done!!
Man on the Match (and also nominated Donkey of the Match) – Jenny
