29/09/2007 Stockport 1s v Newton 4-0

In the first half Stockport attacked and had possession for most of the game we really didn’t give Newton a chance to attack, I don’t think keeper Angela actually had a touch of the ball for the first half an hour!! Newton tried there hardest to stop Jenny, Clare and Lisa attacking their net and they defended well on short corners, but nothing can stop Lisa H when she’s on form and she managed to put the ball in the back of the net. Stockport 1-0

Bean and Nicola were running back and forward all the time covering Newton’s wingers leaving Lucy and Jenny (the formidable duo) to cover the middle where they had plenty of time to cross the ball. Our wing’s consist of Amy and Sam and between them they were hitting the ball across the ‘D’ back and forwards to each other and neither of them could find the back of the net. Then Clare won Stockport a short corner, Jenny pushed out to Amy who had great shot on target but Newton’s goalie saved it leaving Jenny to follow up with yet another great shot that did find the backboard. 2-0 Stockport.

Newton had a couple of chances near the half time whistle. Sally, Louise and Gemma covered the defence so well (as usual) Newton couldn’t get a ball across to a free player. With Newton pushing up and surrounding the hit outs, it was difficult for Sally to get through the wall but either Nicola, Chloe or Michelle were there to break up the players so Sally could get it to Louise on the side line who made good passes to the forwards.

After half time Oranges - Stockport went out again strong from the off. The right hand side of the pitch had most of the play for the first 10 minutes Jenny and Bean were back tracking with the Newton players taking them out of the game and creating space, Stockport then had a hit out which Gemma crossed the ball towards the left back line it went straight to Clare who travelled up the pitch with Michelle and Bean for help on either side, when a cross from Bean found Lisa H at the top of ‘D’ unmarked (not good for Newton) and she made the score line 3-0 Stockport.

Newton picked up there play and I have to say one of there defenders hits the ball so hard none of the Stockport players could stop it so it either went off the back line or straight to one of their wing player’s who was pretty much on the back line anyway!! Keeper Angela Saved some scrambled attempts on goal but Stockport’s Defence knew they needed to keep a clean sheet and our Captain Louise made sure of that clearing the ball every time it came near her and marking players so well they didn’t get a chance to shoot.

Full time was near, Lucy and Gemma – who don’t like running - sprinted from the half way line on the right to try and defend as Newton’s player who travelled down the left wing with the ball got past Nicola and Sally on a lucky break. Just as she came towards the ‘d ‘ after all that running from the girls,  Jenny came out of no where and took the ball clean off her! Thanks Jen - all that running for nothing! Ha Ha.

Final minutes and Chloe got a break; she took the ball back up the other end of the pitch, with help from Nicola the ball was then passed to Clare who won Stockport a short corner. Jenny passed to Lucy who took the shot on goal it was going wide until Sam disheartened Newton even more by making the final score 4-0 Stockport.
