| 21/10/2007 | Stockport 2s v Salford Trinity 1 | 5-1 |
Salford Trinity were one player down and Stockport from the start
were on the attack with Jodie Wynne on the left, Lucy Rowbottom on
the right and Emma Woodhead and Laura “Mc Flurry” Woodhead down the
middle. There was some great movement and passes through the
midfield of Julie Griffiths, Dunners and Emily Smith to the
forwards, with Laura unlucky not to get on the end of a cross from
Lucy from the right wing. Eventually a cross got through resulting
in a tap in for Jodie who was well positioned on the post, five
minutes later Jodie had a second after some neat passes.
The defence of Sally Fort, Helen Elcock and Wendy Van Tonder soaked
up any pressure and Angie Fuggle in goal had little to do except
soak up the balmy November sun. Midway through the 2nd half
Stockport won a short corner, after the initial shot was saved by
Becky, the excellent Salford keeper, there was numerous shots and
rebounds but with the keeper on the floor it was left to Jodie to
drag and flick the ball into the net for first half hat-trick. Chole
Withers playing her first match for the 2nd team, made some
excellent runs down the right and was nearly on the end of a great
pass from Emma.
From the start of the 2nd half, Salford Trinity stepped up the pace
of the game, the Stockport defence were under pressure and Wendy was
called upon to make some of her trade mark block tackles and Angie
forced to make some kicks out of the circle.
Eventually the pressure told and Salford pulled a goal back to make
it 3 -1. After some shrewd substitutions from Josie aka Sven on the
side line (had to get my name in somehow!) Stockport gradually took
control of the game, again Chole made some excellent runs down the
right and worked well with Dunners, piling on the pressure on the
Salford left back, resulting in a well deserved goal for Laura, who
managed to get a shot under the Salford keeper. Salford still
attacked but as the game drew to a close Laura McFlurry got her
second. Final Score 5 -1.
Well done to everyone, in the draw for next round of the 3rd
Division Cup.
