| 03/11/2007 | Stockport 4s v City of Manchester Ladies 1s | 9-2 |
Stockport 4th team travelled to Belle Vue to play City of Manchester who are in top spot and would be obviously looking to stay there. City of M/cr started strong passing the ball fluidly around the pitch and creating some fast attacking play and it wasn't too long before they scored their first (of many) goals from a long shot at the top of the circle. The speed of City of M/cr was proving difficult for the Stockport 4th team to keep up with which put the defence under constant pressure. A second goal was soon to follow from a well rehearsed short corner and goalkeeper Andrea Getcheffsky wrong footed letting in another goal - very embarrassing! Sharon Bostandji was solid in defence with a great eye for the ball and sporting a new hair do taking at least 10 years off her - so she looked 60 ;-) And talking of 60, Hilary Clamp was put through her paces at right half by the young City of M/cr forwards and did well to keep up with them most of the time! Half time score 7-1.
This was a game of two halves as Stockport raised their game in the 2nd half and were determined not to start playing a defensive game and wanted to keep going for goal. Andrea Getcheffsky made up for her first half nightmare making some excellent saves and Julie Plant and Sharon Bostandji worked hard to clear off the keepers pads. Jenny Plant linked up with Debbie Mole and Natalie Sutherland to create chances and their efforts paid off with a second goal from some determined play. A little reshuffle found Viv Hudson playing in midfield and this made a big difference to the Stockport game. Viv was feeding Anne Adamson on the right wing but also getting back to help out in defence. A fortunate deflection of the goal post saw City of Manchester find goal again and they were gunning to get the score to double figures but Stockport were even more determined not to let them. After a final effort from City of M/cr and then a fraught scramble in the circle which saw an uncontrolled effort fire in the face of Viv Hudson causing a facial injury, final score 9-2.
