| 04/11/2007 | Stockport 5s v Didsbury Northern Ladies 5s | 2-6 |
This was a game of 2 halves. The first half was Didsbury Northern
applying the pressure and putting the Stockport defence under attack
with two early goals. Alison Turner and Natasha Getcheffsky had to
work hard to keep the ball out and they rose to the challenge.
Didsbury gained a number of short corners and were able to convert
them with Stockport drifting from the posts creating space and
Didsbury were not going to waste the opportunities. Natalie
Sutherland and Debbie Mole created chances but were unable to gain
anything from their efforts. Abi Saunders had a job and a half in
midfield but channelled play wide preventing breaks from the left.
Sally McRoberts played with an injury and although a half was
playing some fantastic forward play so hey no prizes for guessing
where we moved Sally 2nd half - yes to the right wing! Half time
score 4-0 to Didsbury.
The 2nd half was a slightly different story and Stockport started out the
stronger side. Some determined play form Ceira McNamee and Claire Lumsden
created space and a lovely reverse stick effort from Chloe Withers resulted in a
goal - whoaoo! This lifted Stockport's spirit and another goal soon followed
through determined work by Natalie Sutherland and Debbie Mole partnership. Emma
Higgs reverted to an inner position from her normal wing position and took to
the position like a duck to water, her fantastic hit fed the forward line and
put the Didsbury defence under pressure.
Christina Bates got in on the act working well with Emma Higgs and Ceira
McNamee and drove the ball into the circle slightly wide of the post.
Again, another solid performance from the young 5th team side and certainly still demonstrating potential for the future - well done to all who played! Player of the game was Andrea Getcheffsky (even with letting in 6 goals :-()
