| 11/11/2007 | Stockport 3s v Heaton | 0-7 |
This was always going to be a difficult cup match for the
Stockport 3rd Team and their aim was to improve on the 8-0 scoreline
from the previous time these two sides met. Heaton took advantage of
the Stockport side settling down and scored a very early goal and
Stockport were already playing catch up.
Heaton continued their strong start and the Stockport defence were
put under a lot of pressure early on in the game. Adele White made
some superb clears and wrong footed a couple of times which gave
away some short corners. Heaton fired the ball at the goal and
keeper Andrea Getcheffsky had her work cut out.
Stockport were finding it difficult to hit the ball from the 16 hit
out and were making it easy for Heaton to capitalise on this
intercepting the ball and making an attack on goal. Kelly Shore and
Kelsey Redwood worked hard in midfield to build up play for the
Stockport forwards as well as getting back to defend.
Heaton's Jane Brown made some determined runs down the right wing
and was able to send in some accurate crosses which Heaton picked up
on the slip shot, half time score 3-0 to Heaton.
There wasn't much to say at half time as everyone on the 3rd team
was giving 100% but it was evident the defence were tiring as Heaton
didn't take long to get on the score sheet again not long after the
2nd half whistle. Kerry Roberts started to read the Heaton attacking
play and picked up players cutting out a lot of the slip shots in
the 2nd half and also taking the hit outs which started to get
through to the midfield. Picking Jenny Foster up was a full time job
for Bernadette Pheiffer, Alison Turner and Kelly Shore taking their
turn as she was proving an influential force in the Stockport
circle.
Stockport did break and put the Heaton defence under pressure
through some determined work from Natasha Getcheffsky, Becks Evans
and Emma Richards linking up well but unable to finish with a decent
shot on goal. Claire Lumsden and Hannah Meadwell held their own and
made some productive passes on their respective sides - both players
improving with each game they play.
Julie Gavin may think twice about offering to help out in defence as
she received a yelling at from keeper Andrea Getcheffsky (what's
new!) as there was a mis-communication about backing up and picking
up players - sorry Julie :-) Most of the defence are used to it by
now!!
Player of the match was Mouth Getcheffsky and Final score was 7-0 to
Heaton so the objective of improving on the last result was achieved
:-) but 3rd team are out of the Divisional Cup :-(
