It was experience legs versus young legs

DATE  FIXTURE  RESULT
11/11/2007 Stockport 4s v Stockport 5s 6-2

A combination of Remembrance Sunday and fear of being cup tied made this a 9 a-side game but it worked out really well and gave some of our young players a full match and plenty of pitch to cover! It was experience (not allowed to say old) versus young legs and it was the experience (age) of the 4th team that took an early goal from the off. The Stockport 5th team woke up and then held the 4th team to 1-0 for a period of attacking play with some great hockey skills from Abi Saunders, Sally McRoberts and Chloe Withers moving the ball between them and breaking through the 4th team midfield to come across the formidable Sharon Bostandji in defence who consistently cleared the ball. Debbie Mole, Viv Hudson and Natalie Sutherland were putting constant pressure on Emma Cash and Natasha Getcheffsky at the back. The forwards were finding it difficult to get past Andrea Getcheffsky in goal and in their frustration were making shots wide wasting opportunities.

Rachel Owen despite some breathing difficulties was working hard down the right side and had Sarah Pearson in support who held her own against the mighty 4th team.

At half time it was 3-0 to the 4th team which didn't reflect the effort of the young 5th team side.

The 2nd half saw more attacking play from the 5th team and a scramble in the 4th team circle saw Sally McRoberts manage to get her stick on the end of the ball and score her debut goal for her team :-) This un-nerved the 4th team who raised their game pushing 5 players forward putting pressure on the defence. Emma Cash forced play wide with some excellent channelling and the back 5 were not allowing anything from the 4th team's short corners managing to clear their efforts.

The 4th team scored again and the 5th team replied with another goal that was another debut goal, this time for Abi Saunders - it was a little bit of the Sally and Abi show with both girls grazing their knees, both getting hit on the leg and both scoring goals - next it will be going to the loo together, oh yeah they already do that at training!!

Rachel Owen pushed up and found perfect position on the post with an open goal and she couldn't believe it when the ball arrived she missed - eye sight test order of the day!!

Overall the 5th team gave the 4th team a good run for their money and played really well. Final score 6-2 and player of the match Andrea Getcheffsky.
