Stockport 1's got back into winning ways

Stockport 1's got back into winning ways this weekend with a 2-0 victory over Glossop, and the victory puts the team at the top of the table in Division 2.

The first half started slowly for Stockport. Glossop players crowded the midfield and significant spells of possession were difficult for either team. However Stockport started to use the wings more, control the game and repeatedly attacked the Glossop circle to fire shots on goal that the Glossop keeper had to save. It was midfielder, Chloe Egerton who found the breakthrough as she scored Stockport's first goal from a long corner. Glossop had a sequence of short corners towards the end of the half, and clearly had one player who could drill the strike at either corner post. However, keeper Angela Fuggle and the Stockport defenders were alert to the dangers and kept the scoreline at 1-0 by the half-time whistle.

In the second half Stockport started to grow in confidence. Nicola Adamson, Jenny Plant, Amy Nicklin, Charlie Sims and Jenny Worth started to pass the ball around the circle with style, and had Glossop defending in numbers. A well worked short corner routine between Amy and Jenny Plant resulted in Jenny getting the second Stockport goal. Glossop never gave up but couldn't breakdown the Stockport defence and it ended 2-0.
