| 01/12/2007 | Stockport 2s v Manchester University Women's 3s | 1-3 |
A chilly and windy Armitage centre was the setting for the latest
2nd XI match against a Manchester University 4th team, who had
recently jumped above us in the league.
From the off, the Uni team meant business, attacking and putting the
defence of Helen Elcock, Wendy Van Tonder and Sally Fort under
constant pressure for the first 20 minutes. The midfield of Emily
Smith, Hannah Williams and Adele Lumsden really struggled to make
any headway and the forwards of Laura and Emma Woodhead , Lisa
Horbury and Lucy Rowbottom hardly saw the ball.
Duggie, back in after a few weeks off with an injury, made some
excellent saves but after about 25 minutes, the university went one
up, and four minutes later they got their 2nd.
But the team didn’t give up and after a break, won a short corner,
Lisa had a shot from the top of the circle, and Lucy made sure that
it went over the line. Game on!!
With Susan “Super glue “ Elcock coming on, to do her excellent man
to man marking for the last few minutes on a university forward.
After a pep talk at half time, Stockport came out in a different
frame of mind and began to play with less panic and began to put
pressure on the University defence.
Susan did an outstanding job, keeping the University number 3 out of
the game….unfortunately after a loss of concentration Manchester,
managed to put another one into the net.
Despite lots of effort, Stockport were unable to get anything else
out of the game.
Final Score: Manchester University 3 Stockport 2nd Team 1
