11/11/2007 Stockport 3s v Didsbury Northern 5s penalties

It was a fantastic start to the cup match between Stockport 3rd and Didsbury Northern 5th. Stockport came out fighting and dominated the game. It wasn’t long before Christina Bates finished off a set piece move initiated by Eliza Hubberly and Claire Lumsden and sent Stockport into the lead in cracking style. Kelly Shore narrowly missed making the game 2 – 0 after Jenny Plant set her up with a text book pass into the D. Didsbury however rallied and it was end to end action until Didsbury scored an equaliser in the last second of the first half.

The second half started off with Didsbury dominating and despite some fantastic saves from Julie Gavin another goal slipped past and Didsbury were 3-2 ahead. Once again it was end to end and Stockport fought back. Beks Evans and Claire Lumsden worked hard as they stormed down the right wing breaking down Didsbury’s defence. Beks Evans was rewarded with an equaliser in the second half.

Despite the elements everyone who was watching was rewarded with an exciting game. More nail biting as the match had to be decided with a penalty shoot-out. No worries, up strode our players and hey we scored! Well done to Kelly Shore and Sally Fort for scoring against the wind! Well done to Julie Gavin for preventing Didsbury from scoring at all. Well done to the whole team who worked so hard together, you were brilliant.
