We arrived in good time

This match was rearranged twice, once by each team, we arrived in good time! After a quick pause to catch up with Hollyoaks, we went out into the wild wind of Bacup to do some proper warming up… Fearns turned up in dribs and drabs and eventually we got under way 5 minutes late.   Fearns were immediately on the attack and they showed they had some good players especially up front, after a mix up in the defence, they scored a soft goal. Stockport had a lot of possession with Clare Atherton, Lucy and Sam working hard down the middle. And the defence of Adele, Susan and Helen pushing up and feeding the midfield. But Fearns were quick to attack if they gained possession and in order to keep the quick forward player under control, Clare dropped back and Jenny Worth came in to the midfield, but even Jenny’s lightening speed and quick stick work Stockport were unable to level it.
 
In the second half everyone worked hard to press for a goal, both Laura and Jenny had penalty corners saved, Emma and Jenny Plant worked hard down the right and made some great crosses but the forwards were just unable to get on the end of them.  There was some unsportsmanlike play from Fearns with Clare taking an elbow in the face and Jenny Worth being pushed all over the place. Fearns then got a couple of penalty corners in quick succession and made the most of theirs scoring with well taken strikes.  Stockport never gave up and in the last 5 minutes Jenny Worth scored a consolation goal from a penalty corner.
