A funny match

DATE  FIXTURE  RESULT
19/01/2008 Stockport 2s v Salford Trinity 1-1

With nothing on fixtures live there were a few last minute worries that we were actually in the right place.  When Margaret White turned up we knew we were okay!

This was a funny match, Stockport dominated the play, had most of the possession and made plenty of goal opportunities in the 1st half, with Laura Woodhead on the RW and Sam Piggin working well down the middle and creating some breaks and one on ones with the GK but the Salford GK made some great saves and Laura some excellent forward rolls! Midway through the first half, Stockport went 1 down to a goal that sneaked through at the post.  Stockport never gave up and had plenty of penalty corners but despite all that practice on Thursday just couldn’t convert them.

In the 2nd half, it was all Stockport with Lucy Rowbotton and Emily Smith working hard in the midfield, the defence of Wendy, Lucy Cook and Helen had the occasional attack but they always cleared it well and Duggie when called open controlled her circle (she just needs to shout a bit more!).  At the start of the 2nd half Sam switched to the wing and made some searching attacks down the sideline and some great crosses but the Salford defence worked really hard to clear. Finally, after so many attempts – Sam got the equalizer after some neat passes down the right it was 3 on 1 situation and Sam hit the back board. Despite pressing for a winner, it finished 1 – 1.  Thanks to the supporters for cheering us on in the rain.

POM I don’t know as they didn’t tell me but I would say Sam !
