| 20/01/2008 | Stockport 4s v Didsbury Northern 5s | 5-1 |
Having lost the last couple of games we needed a good performance
and that’s what we got. Although Stockport were under attack from
the first whistle we defended hard. Sharon Bostandji, Barbara
Bailey, Nikki Barker, Janet Woodhead, Hilary Clamp and Di Twist did
sterling work defending within the 25 yard area. A resulting
clearance found Viv Hudson who broke away with the ball in her own
half. A well placed pass split the Didsbury defence finding
Nat Sutherland who having carried the ball into the circle then saw
her blistering shot saved by the keeper. Unfortunately for the
keeper the rebound found Justina Maddock who calmly placed the ball
in the back of the net, 1 – 0.
The second goal was again the result of a quick break. A ball from
Hilary Clamp in defence found Nikki Barker whose quick pass through
to Debbie Mole made it 2 – 0, not bad for old girls! An
unfortunate own goal made the score 3-0 at half time.
The 2nd half saw a stronger Stockport performance and a free hit just outside the circle played short to Ann Adamson, was finally fired home by Nat Sutherland, a great set play. Nikki Barker covered most of the pitch supporting the forwards as well as getting back to support the defence. Outstanding performances also from Janet Woodhead and Justina Maddock helped secure a 2nd goal for Debbie and made the 3 points secure.
Full credit to Didsbury who never gave up and continued to attack, they were
finally rewarded with a consolation goal, what a great attitude, watch and learn.
