| 19/01/2008 | Stockport 2s v Salford Trinity | 3-0 |
Stockport 2nds kept up the pressure on the league leaders with an impressive 2-0 win against Urmston 3rds. The game started with Urmston applying some early pressure and winning some short corners that were effectively dealt with by the Stockport defence. After Laura’s creative impression of stumbling tiger flying hockey sticks in the attacking D (which nearly got her sent off!!!), the Stockport team regained composure that lead to a short corner that Sam scored after good interplay between Charlotte and Wendy in the D.
In the second half the Stockport decided to increase the pressure on the Urmston defence by adding an extra forward onto the attacking line. This created good movement down left wing between Jodie, Emily and Charlotte and good passing on the right wing between Hannah and Laura, which also led to an amazing cross by Hannah that Sam easily scored from. The strong back three of Adele, Sally and Helen comfortably dealt with any Urmston breakaways, leaving Duggie to play the role of Stockport’s unofficial cheerleader. The centre midfield of Wendy and Julie acted as an effective mobile unit both helping attack and defence. The introduction of Captain Josie into attack, led to a succession of short corners and good attacking play which Stockport unfortunately couldn’t convert into the third goal that the overall team display deserved.
Well played everybody
