Due to various circumstances, the 2nd started this 3rd Division
cup match with 10 players (well 9.5 as Josie ended up playing with a
dodgy ankle!) But it didn’t faze us….
Moss Park, with their vocal coach on the side line were on the
attack from the start and passing the ball around the back four and
through the midfield, but Stockport held strong with some great work
from Adele playing a unfamiliar left midfield and Julie in the
centre of midfield. When we did attack, Lucy and Hannah with their
young long legs made some excellent runs down the right with Emma
always there as support on the left, one of these attacks lead to a
number of short corners for Stockport from which Lucy converted one
after a decisive pass from Hannah 1 – 0.
Stockport, despite the 10 players kept their shape and the defence
of Sally, Wendy and Helen and Duggie controlled the circle and often
turned defence into attack. Stockport made the most of one of these
with Lucy driving forward down the right passing to Hannah n the
edge of the circle who made a great pass to Josie who scored! 2 – 0.
Emma Woodhead, worked really hard in the left forward position
coming back to defend and putting pressure on the Moss Park defence
to play the ball.
In the 2nd half Moss Park really stepped up the pressure and the
exertion of the 1st half began to take its toll n Stockport. They
had a series of short corners (and some dodgy/unexplained umpiring
decisions go in their favour) but Duggie made some excellent saves
but unfortunately they got 1 back, not long afterwards it was 2 – 2.
An interesting final 10 minutes….Stockport kept up the pressure, but
that 1 player less made the difference especially in the attack Emma
had a shot that went just wide after a pass from the wing from
Hannah, Lucy got around a few defenders and her shot just passed the
far post…In the final minutes Moss Park got their winner…Final Score
2 – 3 to Moss Park.
