24/02/2008 Stockport 3s v Tameside 1s 1-3

From the start Stockport had a vision of a win in their sights. The game started with some superb play Stockport's Jenny Plant and Elisabeth Hubberley making Manchester have to work hard. Manchester took the lead, Julie Gavin made an amazing first save pushing it out to the side, unfortunately Manchester managed to get on the end of it and put it in the back of the net with help from the wind. Stockport didn’t let this affect them, with some fantastic passing around Manchester players by Caroline & Claire Lumsden and Nicola Adamson which resulted in a shot that skimmed the back post. Despite all the hard work by Stockport Manchester managed to get between, Bernadette Pheiffer and Julie Gavin to score their second goal. Stockport went on to have a number of shots on goal yet unable to convert them. The defence stayed strong in the latter of the first half with Marion Kennedy and Kerry Roberts stopping the major of the play before it reached the top of the ‘D’.

In the second half Stockport held there ground, being strong in the middle Becks Evans and Kelsey Redwood worked the ball around making it difficult for Manchester to gain possession. Having most of the possession, Stockport had further attempts on goal which were again unsuccessful in converting. Manchester had the ball and the goal in their sights again, which was converted. With 10minutes to go Stockport were still working as a team, passing the ball around, making Manchester panic about where the ball will be passed next.  Then came Stockport's big break, with some fantastic play the ball managed to get from defences, to Caroline who had the goal in sight yet with 3 Manchester defenders to pass, gained a short corner for the team. The ball was pushed out by Caroline to Jenny who went for a straight strike, a brilliant save by the keeper put the ball in the path a Carloine who placed it nicely between the keepers right foot and the post, goal for Stockport with much delight from the rest of the team. In the remaining time, Stockport managed to put enough pressure on Manchester that the ball never left there half. Well Done to Stockport, Manchester awarded Kerry with man of the match which was well deserved.
