| 27/09/2008 | Stockport 1s v Manto 1’s | 4-0 |
Stockport got off to a perfect start in this game, scoring after 2 minutes. Jenny W created the attack running with the ball from midfield, and Lisa finished the move by lifting the ball past the keeper on her reverse stick. Manto responded well and had several promising attacks and opportunities from short corners, but any shot on goal was cleared by excellent saves by Angela. It was a determined defensive unit that kept a clean score sheet all match. At one point Gemma dived over the grounded keeper to ensure the ball went wide of the post, and had grazed knees for her efforts.
On the 25th minute Stockport scored their second from a short corner when Amy Nicklin’s shot bobbled up over a defender’s stick and past the Manto keeper.
In the second
half Stockport’s game really started to flow, with long spells of
possession. Charlie, Clare and Emma Woodhead where able to move up
the pitch and support the forwards as the team worked the ball
around the edge of the circle with confidence. Jenny W found the
opening in front of goal to score with a reverse stick shot. In the
blazing September sun, the opposition wilted as Stockport continued
to press forward. Any Nicklin was rewarded with a second goal in the
match in the final ten minutes of the game. The final result, 4-0
and the first team can take great confidence from the victory, and
in how way they played this week.
