They didn’t disappoint

DATE  FIXTURE  RESULT
04/10/2008 Stockport 5s v Stockport 4s 4-0

This was the 2nd meeting in under a month for the 4th and 5th  and they didn’t disappoint.

The 5ths started well with a lot of possession and after 15 minutes broke the deadlock.  It came from a long corner and having blocked the initial cross, the 4th defence were unable to stop Hilary Clamp driving the ball back into the circle along the back line, this found Viv Hudson whose point blank shot was well saved by Andrea but  unfortunately she was unable to save the rebound from Justina Maddock who took her tally for the season to 5.  Debbie you have some work to do!

The 4th tried to get back on level terms with some great play down the middle from Beth Sangster and Christina Bates but they just couldn’t finish.  The 2nd goal was scored by Viv Hudson  from a dubious corner and yes we hold our hands up on that one Andrea, sorry. But there was nothing dubious about the 3rd goal, which has to be a contender for goal of the season.  Hils with the skills latched on to a ball played  into the circle by Adele White,  with no time to look up she spun and shot at goal, 3 – 0.  Oh OK Andrea saved it but unfortunately for her it just crept inside the post, lucky goal!

Having turned round at half time it soon became apparent why the 5ths had found it easy to attack....wind behind!  All of a sudden it was the 4th team who dominated with some great passing play but Jeanne Woolston kept them out with a number of great saves.  Midway through the 2nd half the umpire awarded a penalty flick for two consecutive early breaks from the short corner, unfortunately Louise doesn’t understand that us oldies need a head start at corners J !
Christana Bates stepped up to take the flick but it was just too straight and Jeanne managed to get a hand  on it.

More pressure from the 5th s brought out some great defending, especially from Hannah Meadwell who also stuck to her task well with some excellent marking.

The best move of the game produced a 4th goal for the 5th team.  A ball played out of defence found Di Twist and having held the ball to allow players to move up field she then released  a great through ball finding Viv Hudson, she carried the ball up the right wing and played a pin point pass which found Kim Lumsden in space in the D and she calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

This was a more confident performance from the ‘aging’ 5th team but also a good performance from the 4th team, the game was closer than the result suggests.

Player of the match nominated by the 5th team was Beth Sangster, well done.

Hils with the skills.
