Stockport Hockey Club - Senior Ladies

Stockport Hockey Club 1st team continued their excellent form with a hat-trick from Jenny Worth at the weekend, Worth scored 2 very early goals from solo runs up the pitch against Didsbury Northern 3rds.  Didsbury then started playing very defensively making it hard for the Stockport team to break through and pulled back 2 goals but a 3rd goal from Worth gave Stockport the win and put them joint leaders at the top of the Division One League Table.

The 3rd team were at home against Manchester University 5ths.  The University took an early lead with a strike from the top of the circle deflecting and falling to another of the University’s attackers who found the net.  It wasn’t long until the 3rds were on the attack and gained a short corner which Helen Elcock moved up from deep defence to take and the 3rds equalised, through a slip shot from daughter Susan Elcock.  The 3rds then took the lead just before half time with a goal from Becks Evans.  In the 2nd half the 3rds increased the pressure on the University side and secured a number of short corners converting two more into goals for Sam Piggin.  The University scored a 2nd before a final goal from open play secured a 5-2 win for Stockport.

The 4th team were up against their 5th team with some key players missing this was going to be a difficult fixture and it wasn’t long before the 5ths took the lead from a long strike across the circle finding Justina Maddocks on the post.  This was quickly followed by a 2nd goal from Hilary Clamp who converted a short corner past the keeper.  Beth Sangster worked hard in midfield for the 5ths finding Christina Bates and Emma Higgs up front but the experienced 4th team defence broke down the play preventing the 4ths from scoring.  A goal from Viv Hudson made it 3-0 at half time. In the 2nd half the 4th team had opportunities and Christina Bates failed to convert a penalty flick.  Kim Lumsden’s run down the left wing paid off for the 5ths with a goal flying into the net making the final score 4-0.
