Senior Teams
Stockport 1st team were in action against University of Manchester 2nds and had their work cut out. A shot on goal was stopped by the feet of Gemma Cook on the goal line and the University team converted their penalty flick. A deflection off a Stockport defender in the circle resulted in a 2nd goal for the University team and although Stockport had a lot of possession they were just unable to finish their hardwork. Jenny Worth managed to pull a goal back for Stockport but the University team gained a 3rd goal winning the game 3-1.
Stockport 2nd and 4th team played their prelim games in the Divisional Cup. Stockport 2nds played in a scrappy game against Fearns who had 2 dubious goals allowed in the 1st half, one being off the feet of the attacker and the 2nd being a high shot from a short corner. Sam Piggin and Laura Woodhead worked hard in midfield and managed to pull a goal back from open play. In the 2nd half Debbie Mole found form and a hard hit from the top of the circle gained Stockport a 2nd goal which wasn't quite enough to secure the win as Fearns had a 1 goal advantage at the start of the match. Final score 3-2.
The 4th Division Stockport 4th team travelled to Salford Trinity to play 2nd
Division Moss Park. Although they started with a 2 goal advantage this was
going to be a tough match, in particular as a deflected ball in the warm up gave
Christina Bates a black eye before the game even started! Stockport were
under attack from the off but excellent defensive play from Helen McConliffe and
Helen Taylor broke down the Moss Park attack. Goal keeper Andrea Boulton
was on form saving a high flick shot in the opening minutes providing Moss Park
with a long corner. This was taken quickly and crossed the circle finding
an attacker on the far post who slipped in the shot. Moss Park applied
constant pressure on the defence and it was 4-2 at half time. The 2nd half
Stockport pulled out all stops and Moss Park only scored through 2 goal keeping
errors. Christina Bates converted a short corner giving Stockport a well
deserved consolation goal - final score 6-3.
Junior Under 11's
Stockport boys and girls Under 11's teams travelled to Belle Vue for the first tournament in the Greater Manchester Junior League. Outstanding goals came from open play for Matthew D'Souza (3) and on the post debut goals from Peter Withers (2). Daniel Gallagher and Alex Fynn had their work cut out in defence especially against an experienced Tameside side with 6 year old Will Carroll holding his own in midfield with Nye Parfitt for Stockport. The young boys team came 4th overall.
The Under 11 girls won 3, drew 2 and lost only 1 game with goals coming from determined play from Hayley Farrell who took on the goalkeeper one to one twice and scored. Darcy Clay worked well down the right wing and linked up with Jessica Carroll and Vicky Roberts putting the opposition under pressure throughout their games. Ellie Foster and Sarah Stretton supported young goalkeeper Sharna Dale in defence who kept a clean sheet in 4 out of their 6 matches. The girls came 3rd overall just missing out on 2nd place by one point.
