| 08/11/2008 | Stockport 4s v Didsbury Northern 6s | 7-1 |
The Werneth wind was whistling around the pitch as usual, but unusually the sun was shining. Was this an omen, could Stockport’s fourths beat Didsbury Northern’s sixth team? We all eagerly gathered around Jax to hear how a win could be achieved. First and foremost we were to enjoy ourselves, well that’s easy, we can do that! Secondly the 3 man weave was to be a vital tool in our armoury, oh dear!
The match started and it looked as though it was going to be a tight battle but at last Jenny Whaller broke free down the right wing, crossed the ball into the D for Christina Bates to convert, 1-0. With whoops of joy we were away, but then disaster, not long after Didsbury equalised. Unperturbed we raised our game and after a goalmouth scrabble Christina finally pushed the ball past the goalie, 2-1.
We dominated the game from then on with Lisa Hughes making it 3-1. Jax then did an amazing reverse stick push which rolled past the goalie almost in slow motion. Lisa taking inspiration scored again from a cross from Helen Higgs and Jax not to be outdone came powering down the pitch scything past the opposition to score a cracking goal, 6-1 and only the first half!
When the second half started it was quite clear that Didsbury Northern hadn’t given up, they were out to get the goals back and were dominating the game. We kept our cool and defended brilliantly and eventually broke back when Jax flicked the ball past the goalie to make it 7-1 and a hat-trick for herself. Not satisfied with that score Jenny Whaller decided to make it an even number and from a push from Lisa Malpass she scored.
We certainly went fourth and multiplied and we certainly enjoyed ourselves! Helen Mac was voted “Man of the Match” for her magnificent defending especially in the second half. By the way, Jax parting words were “what happened to the 3 man weave?”
