Stockport 1’s travelled to Bolton and narrowly lost out in a tough encounter with a strong Bolton squad. Stockport conceded twice in the opening 15 minutes of the game. However, a super ball into the circle by Jenny Worth allowed a nifty flick on by Lisa Horbury to score our first goal, and put us back in the game. Jenny Plant on the right wing was excellent at holding onto possession up front and waited for support. The midfield of Rachel, Chloe and Clare started to link up well and switch the ball around in the opposition’s half and select the right pass into the circle, which Lisa picked up who scored her second.
Going in 2-2 at half time, it was looking promising but unfortunately the second half didn’t go as well. Stockport conceded early on when a strike from the top of the circle deflected off a foot and into the goal. Then Wendy Fort took a shot full force on her foot and was unable to continue for the rest of the game. Bolton took advantage as the defence had to re-organise, and scored their 4th. Stockport never gave up and continued to play well right to the end. Amy Nicklin scored from a short corner, but with less than five minutes to go Bolton were canny enough just to play for possession and held on for the win.
