Giving the keeper no chance  

Turning up with 15 players and raring to go we were disappointed to be greeted with a slightly frozen pitch and thick fog!!  After a quick discussion we decided that having turned up we would give it a go and started the game.   It was end to end stuff and a pretty even match but against the run of play we went 1 -0 down after 20 minutes and it looked like it was going to be another one of those days!  BUT with the true fighting spirit of the 5th team, we stepped up a  gear and Julie Gavin soon got us back on level terms  1 -1.  
 
We continued to pile on the pressure  and some great passing from the midfield players including Lesley and Adele found Viv Hudson who slotted home making it 2 – 1 at half time.  With 15 players available to swap on and off in this game the fresh legs made the difference and a  ball played through from Julie Gavin (fresh as a daisy) found Beth Kirkham who scored her 1st goal for Stockport and was chuffed to bits. 
 
With a bit of clear air now the 5th team settled down and played some brilliant hockey with Adele White having her best game of the season so far, she was like a woman possessed, fighting for every ball and winning a short corner!  Taken by Viv Hudson the ball found Debbie Mole who scored a trademark goal from the edge of the circle giving the keeper no chance, 4 -1.
 
Didsbury threatened for a 10 minute spell and eventually found a way through making the score 4 -2, but good defensive work from Sharon, Lesley and Barbara  and Jeanne in goals kept them out for the remainder of the game.   Beth rounded off a great game with her 2nd goal, another shot from the edge of the circle making her worthy of her player of the match award, well done Beth what a great performance.
 
A well deserved win for the 5th team which will hopefully boast our confidence.  Oh and did you notice girls we were the only team to win this week!  There’s an achievement :)
