30/11/2008 Stockport 3s v Urmston 1-4

Stockport 3s travelled to Urmston Well Acre School building site for the last match this weekend. The top corner of the pitch shaded by trees was frosty, cold and dark but after some debate we decided it was probably safe to play.

The first half saw Stockport 3s under a lot of pressure from the strong Urmston side. With many of our core squad missing it took while for the team to gel. With intense pressure on the defence, Helen Elcock, Susan Elcock ( stepping in for Kelly) and Maureen Murphy it was not long before a series of short corners led to the first goal for Urmston. Stockport 3s managed to break a couple of times and some chances on Goal with the accurate hits from Debbie Moles being picked up by Claire Lumsdon. Despite the chances the goals did not come and Urmston managed score twice again once from a short and one from a lovely piece of open play where Brodwen drove the ball down the back line passed it top D where it was passed round the defence and into the net.  The first half ended 0-3.

In the second half we started to gel as a team, the halves Kelsey Redwood, Susan Elcock, Leah Perkins, Kim Lumsdon and Laura Murphy but in the extra effort need to keep the pressure on. It was not long before it all paid off when Susan Elcock converted a short corner by deflecting the hit in from Debbie Moles, excellently executed goal. We kept the pressure on attacking up the left with  balls finding Jenney Weller and Lisa Malpas ( playing up from the 4s) but despite the pressure we could not score again. Urmston put another away and the game ended 4-1 to Urmston, a disappointing result from Stockport 3s

Well played everyone in a tough game.
