Stockport 2nd Team

The Stockport 2nd team were at home against Urmston 2’s and it was Urmston who got into their stride the quickest and were soon one up after a neat passes down the right. Stockport didn’t give up and soon got back into the game, with Lucy Cook and Maureen Murphy working well in defence and Jax Pheiffer pushing the midfield forward.  There were good runs from Nicola Adamson and Sam Piggin resulting in shots on goal but despite their efforts at half time it was 0 – 1 to Urmston.  In the second half it was all Stockport with wave on wave of attack but the Urmston goalie played really well and was equal to the efforts of Stockport forwards, eventually Nicola Adamson followed up on shot from Laura Woodhead for a well deserved equaliser. The Stockport midfield of Emma Woodhead, Lucy Rowbottom and Julie Griffiths gained control of the game but Stockport couldn’t find their second goal. The defence was put under a bit of pressure in the last 10 minutes but goalkeeper Angela Fuggle kept Umstons efforts out to enable Stockport to hold out for the draw.  Final score 1 – 1

Stockport 3rd Team

Stockport 3rd team remain top of the league table for Christmas with a 6-2 win away against Didsbury Greys.  Stockport scored in 5 minutes with a cross in from the right found Caroline Lumsden on the far post.  This woke Didsbury Greys up and they fought hard to find the equaliser which came from a well taken short corner. 1-1 at half time.  In the second half Stockport took control of the game with Natalie Sutherland and Debbie Mole linking up well and getting 2 goals a piece in quick succession.  Didsbury Greys scored again from a close range shot and Debbie Mole scored her hatrick for Stockport with their sixth goal before the final whistle making the final score 6-2 to Stockport.

Stockport 4th Team

Stockport 4th Team traveled to the Armitage Centre to play their last game before the Christmas break against Manchester University 5th Team who had won their last two games.  The University team started strong and had most of the possession but Helen Taylor and Beth Sangster were well organised in the Stockport defence frustrating the University side.  A well organised Stockport side eventually scored after a great run and pass from Leah Perkins found Chloe Withers on the post just at the half hour point.  Goalkeeper Andrea Boulton was forced to save well on 2 occasions, one being a well taken penalty corner.  In the 34th minute Fiona Holland’s close range shot was taken over the line by the keeper making it 2-0 at half time.

The 2nd half started in a similar fashion with Manchester Uni struggling to make serious inroads into the Stockport circle and within 5 minutes a defensive error was picked up by Christina Bates who scored again for Stockport.  This goal was closely followed by Manchester Uni whose persistence paid off with a goal which lifted their game.  The University team continued with some strong attacking and shots at the Stockport goal but it was Lisa Malpass who scored on the counter attack with 10 minutes to go.  The University failed to get back into the match making the final score 4-1 to Stockport which leaves them in 5th place in the league at the Christmas break.
