Stockport 2’s v Moss Park 1’s
The visitors in this 2nd Division game were league opposition Moss Park 1s and this was Stockport’s first encounter with this team this season. Although it was Moss Park who commenced the game well drilled and with full on attacking play it was Stockport who took the lead from a penalty corner struck by Laura Woodhead in the 8th minute. Moss Park worked hard and were denied a number of goals by goalkeeper Andrea Boulton but their constant pressure paid off just before half time when they equalised themselves off a penalty corner rebound flicked over the goalkeeper. .
The 2nd half had a similar start to the first as Stockport’s Laura Woodhead again scored from penalty corner taking Stockport back into the lead and Moss Park equalised taking advantage of a poor clearance from Stockport. After the equaliser the game could have gone either way as both sides had and missed chances. Stockport continued to press forward but it was Moss Park who found a second wind scoring 2 more goals in the final 10 minutes making the final score 2-4.
Stockport 2’s v Glossop 1’s
This was Stockport 2’s second game of the weekend but this time a cup game against Glossop 1’s which restricted which players could play given the cup tie rule. Opportunity therefore opened up to some new and 5th team players to play two Divisions higher than they normally play. Glossop started the game the stronger side pressing the Stockport defence heavily into their own circle and forcing a number of saves in quick succession from goal keeper Andrea Boulton. Stockport’s Nikki Barker and Hilary Clamp worked hard in mid field to minimise Glossop’s attacking threat but it was only a matter of time before a breakthrough would come. It eventually came just before half time when Glossop scored from a short corner.
The 2nd half Stockport’s Romana Owen was well positioned on the goal post to tap in an equaliser for Stockport but it wasn’t enough as Glossop went on to score two more goals despite solid defending by Sharon Bostandji and Emily Smith. Final score 1-3 to Glossop.
