Stockport 2s v Urmston 2s

Stockport 2’s traveled to Urmston who are currently top of the 2nd division.  Stockport had made a number of changes to the team so it took a while for them to settle down with Urmston taking advantage and forcing some great defending from Wendy Van Tonder, Helen Elcock and Julie Griffiths very early into the game.  Great goal keeping by Angela Fuggle started to frustrate the Urmston team whilst Stockport began to gain momentum in midfield and balls were being fed through Leah Perkins and Jax Pheiffer up to the forward line.  Although Stockport had their chances it was 0-0 at half time.

Urmston scored in the opening attack of the 2nd half through a deflection from an outstretched Urmston stick.  Although Stockport increased the pressure going forward Urmston stayed strong in defence and still looked dangerous on the counterattack.  Stockport’s pressure eventually paid off when Emily Smith played the ball forward to Sam Piggin who swept the ball through a crowded circle into the goal.  Final score 1-1.

Stockport 4s v Heaton 1s

Stockport were caught off guard when Heaton took the lead very early on in the game through a long cross in from Jane Brown was collected by Carolyn Tonge who slotted the ball neatly past the keeper.  Undeterred by this Stockport were soon on the counter attack with Emma Woodhead and Sam Piggin forcing a number of saves from keeper Nat Davies in the Heaton goal.  Both teams mounted several attacks in what was an end to end game of hockey and it was Stockport who eventually broke through when Debbie Mole scored the equaliser in the 25th minute.

There was everything to play for in the 2nd half and both teams put on an excellent display of hockey and although the usually reliant goal scorers were called upon neither side could secure the winning goal although Emma Woodhead’s shot was unlucky to hit the post.  Final score 1-1.
