Four out of the five Stockport teams were in action this weekend and all started well on Saturday with the 2nd team securing a great 4-1 win against Manchester University 4s with all goals coming from an on-form Laura Woodhead, supported in mid field by Lucy Rowbottom, Sam Piggin and Nicola Attoe. The 5ths then played and continued the winning theme with 2 goals from Justina Maddock, 2 from Romana Owen, 1 from Beth Kirkham and Nikki Barker scoring her first in 18 years of playing hockey against Manchester University 5s making the final score 6-2. Finally, our struggling 1st team were unlucky not to get a point out of their game against Didsbury Northern 2s losing 2-1 with Didsbury clinching the winner in the final minutes of the game casting doubt over their 1st Division place next season.
Sunday started on a positive note with a young Stockport 4th team having an end to end match against Didsbury Grey 3rds going one up just before half time with a cross in from Lisa Hughes finding 14 year old Emma Higgs on the post. The second half Didsbury were caught out on the counter attack following a penalty corner saved by keeper, Andrea Boulton blasting the ball up the right wing to Lisa Hughes again getting a great cross into Caroline Lumsden who made no mistake in scoring. Didsbury Greys converted a penalty corner and although they fought right up to the final whistle the Stockport defence remained solid to take the full 3 points, final score 2-1. The 1st and 5th teams both had their second games of the weekend and both lost, the 1st team losing 3-1 against Bolton 2nds and the 5ths losing 5-0 against Didsbury Northern 6ths.
