| 07/03/2009 | Stockport 5s v Urmston 3s | 2-2 |
If we had been offered a draw at the beginning of this game against an unpredictable Urmston team we probably would have accepted it, having said that Stockport were unlucky to get a draw and deserved to take all 3 points from this game!
In the first half Stockport had numerous chances but shots from Romana Owen, Beth Kirkham and Kim Lumsden went just wide and we struggled to find the target. At the other end some great keeping again by stand in goalie Julie Gavin meant half time arrived with the score at 0-0.
Ten minutes into the 2nd half and the deadlock was broken when a well worked corner gave Julie Gavin no chance! Stockport weren’t behind for long though, Jax Pheiffer who disturbed the ball well from midfield found Viv Hudson in space on the right, having taken the ball up the wing Viv crossed the ball finding Kim Lumsden who made no mistake this time 1-1.
Solid defending from sisters Sharon Bostandji and Lesley Bradley kept the Urmston strickers frustrated and when Di Twist made a reflex goal line clearance from another corner it looked like it was going to be Stockport’s afternoon.
Some good passing play from the forwards again caused the Urmston defence trouble and when Kim picked up a loose ball in the Urmston circle and fired home her 2nd the team were ecstatic to be in front 2-1.
Urmston continued with some strong attacking play and shots at the Stockport goal but again it was a fantastic goal line clearance from Di Twist that kept Stockport in front, unfortunately with about 5 minutes to go Urmston found a way though and this time the Stockport defence could do nothing. Final result 2-2. All in all a good performance from Stockport 5th just a pity we couldn’t hang on to the win. Well played team :)
