| 13/09/2009 | Stockport 4s v Oldham Ladies 2 | 0-1 |
Stockport 3rds started the new season with an away game against
Oldham Ladies 2nds. Adele Lumsdon started in her first game as
team captain of the 3rd team with the help of Becks Evans and this
was the 3rd teams first game in Division 3. We also had a hungover
Goal Keeper who had consumed copious amounts of vodka the night
before (I will leave you to guess who!) :-)
Stockport played some excellent hockey in the first 20 mins and were
unlucky to covert some good chances. The forward line of Debbie
Mole, Claire Lumsdon, Emma Richards, Lisa Hughes and Christina Bates
all had chances at goal and put pressure on the Oldham defence.
Of course, it was not long before Oldham had there fair share of
pressure and they were awarded a short corner midway through
the first half. After a number of attempted clearances, Stockport
were unable to clear the ball away and it rolled into the back of
the net off our own players stick. Some excellent defending from
Kerry Roberts, Nicki Barber, Susan Elcock and Adele Lumsdon and some
excellent saves from Andrea kept the score at 1-0 at half time, and
kept Stockport in the game.
After a few reminders of the new self pass rule (Jac can we have
some training on this please) and a few changes made at half time by
Adele, Stockport looked the stronger side and played some excellent
hockey. The halves of Nat, Romana, Becks and Beth had a tough job
with Oldham switching the play from both sides but all made some
good tackles to win the ball. Andrea also pulled off some excellent
saves in the second half (we think she should play hungover every
week!) to keep out a lively Oldham attack. However, Stockport could
not get the equaliser and the Oldham defence stood strong and held
out for a 1-0 win.
Depite the defeat, Stockport 3rds already look a good side for this
division. This is the first time we have played together in a newly
formed 3rd team so with some fitness training and some help from
Jac's, this good be another good season. Well done everyone!
POM - Debbie Mole - well done
