Looking for their 3rd win of the season

03/10/2009 Stockport 3s v Bolton Ladies 3s 3-3

Stockport 3rds travelled to Bolton looking for their 3rd win of the season.

Stockport started with no substitutions and Romana Owens in goal (who had never played in goal before). The 3rds knew they had to be off to a good start and in the first ten minutes, Debbie Mole and Christina Bates had chances of goal where their shots went narrowly wide. The first goal in the game came after 15 minutes from Bolton – a good move down the right forced a bit of a scrabble in the Stockport defence and their Centre Forward smashed home to give Bolton a 1-0 lead.
It took a while for Stockport to settle. With Caroline and Claire on the right, Stockport broke quickly and forced a number of short corners. Not long after, the 3rd were awarded a penalty flick after a Bolton player purposely kicked the ball off the line. Debbie Mole stepped up to the take the flick and confidently slotted the ball in the bottom left hand corner to draw the game level.
The halves of Emma Richards, Beth and Becks had a big job to do as Bolton put on the pressure and passed the ball superbly but the next goal came from a good move from down the left from Emma Richards who passed the ball to Christina Bates who scored from close range. Bolton equalised just before half time with a short corner which flew in the back of the net, unfortunately giving Romana no chance to make save this time.

Stockport were glad of the ten minutes break as they got their breath and shoved done some oranges for energy! J It must have done the trick for the back 3 of Kelsey Redwood, Leila Owens and Kerry Roberts who played superbly in the second half. Leila Owens (playing right back) made an excellent run up field dribbling round a number of Bolton players and won a short corner. The ball came out to Debbie Mole who scored her second of the game. Bolton’s equaliser came not long after from another short corner where the Stockport defence failed to clear of the line.

Bolton dominated the last 20 minutes of the game as Stockport started to tire. Adam’s fitness training certainly paid of as Stockport worked hard to the final whistle to keep Bolton out. There were some excellent individual performances on Saturday but a special mention goes to Kerry Roberts who had an excellent game in defence and was voted POM. Well done!

Also thank you to Romana Owens who volunteered to play in goal for Stockport. Think we may have a new 3rd team keeper in the making J
Well done everyone who played, a good team effort, lets keep those points coming!
