Derby Day !!

It was Stockport derby day this Saturday and the second set of matches saw the experienced thirds versus the up and coming fours. Both teams looked strong and it was end to end hockey but the 3s well honed team structure with solid defence Susan, Kerry and Deli backed up by the halves Leila, Romana, Chloe and most significantly the practiced predators Claire Lumsdon, Emma Richards and Debbie Moles were able to take the initiative.

The 4s had many chances and Katie Baliely (the thirds keeper) made some impressive saves but it was 3s who broke the dead lock with Emma Richards swept the ball in the net from a well practiced short corner routine. This was quickly followed up by Hils with the Skills scoring cracking the ball into the net from the edge of the D. The pressure was relentless and a few minutes later saw Deli converting another short corner to make it 3-0 to the thirds at half time.

The second half opened with the thirds on an all out assalt. Two minutes in Emma Richards scored again and 3 minutes after that Claire Lumsdon slotted another away. The fours heads did not go down and they upped the pressure with Liv coming back to score the first goal for the 4s following a well worked break neatly weaved though the thirds defence. The second goal for the fours came from a score corner conversion when Emma Higgs picked up the rebound from the first hit and put a lovely high ball in the back of the net no where near Susan's head (which according to the umpires was a perfectly legitimate shot - HA). The thirds came back as Chloe made a sure goal in the the final minutes of the game leaving it 6-2 to the thirds.
