Clubs First

STOCKPORT HOCKEY ARE CLUB FIRST ACCREDITED

Stockport Hockey Club has been accredited with ClubsFirst following our recent file submission and assessment visit.   Not only have we achieved the accreditation but we are the 150th club to do so and we will be putting Stockport on the map with an article on the EH website and in their newsletter.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me in any way with this process (providing info, certificates, providing funding, attending meetings, taking on roles, attending the assessment session etc, etc). We really deserve the accreditation given the transformation we have been through in just 2 seasons - a credit to everyone at Stockport Hockey Club!!

End of Season Presentation Night

We have booked our Club Presentation Evening "Do" on Friday 21st May, 2010 starting 7pm at St Peter's Social Club, Green Lane, Hazel Grove, Stockport, Cheshire SK7 4EA. This year is pay on the door £6 seniors and £4 juniors which will include entrance, disco and food - we will still need to know that you intend coming for catering purposes. There will be various junior and senior player awards made and it would be great if as many players and families as possible could attend - it's usually a great night and I'm sure this year will be no different!

Thursday Night Training

Due to the bad weather during Dec and Jan we will continue our pitch booking at Werneth until the end of April which means our last training night for both juniors and seniors will be Thursday 29th April, 2010. During April it is proposed that we have more 7 a side games then coaching in preparation for Summer League, we will still do the fitness at the start of the session - no escaping that!!

Hockey coaching - Juniors (boys & girls aged 7 upwards) 6-7pm and seniors (ladies) 7-8.15pm at  Werneth Recreation Centre (behind  Werneth School)

All abilities catered for and new players always welcome.

Summer League - May to July 2010

If you are interested in playing Summer League this year May- July please email Hilary or let her know at training ASAP. Ladies is on a Wednesday night 6-9pm and I will also putting in a Badgers team which will be a Monday night (badges being 5 players aged under 16 and 2 players aged over 18). If anyone is interested in also doing the Mixed hockey I will be asking Bramhall Men's if they want to join us for a team so can you also express an interest when contacting Hilary if you want to do the mixed hockey on a Tuesday night.

You need to let Hilary know by 31st March, 2010 as entries have to be in by 2nd April at the latest if you want to play and you really need to give the commitment to turning up as last year we entered 3 teams and struggled for players!

If anyone is willing to run one of the teams again, please let Hilary know. The number of teams we enter will depend on how many goalies, players and volunteers to organise we get by the 31/3/10! Summer league starts week commencing 12th May, 2010.

Charity Tournaments - Even More Hockey!

We have entered 4 teams into the League charity tournament on 17th April, 2010 so let your captain know if you want to play so we can organise teams.

Stockport will have their own Club Charity Tournament at Werneth on 8th May, 2010 where we mix up all our teams and have a fun afternoon of 7 aside hockey - players registered or not can play in this! We will require donations of cakes, raffle prizes and items for our tombola please!

Further details will follow nearer the time but ear mark the date in your diary!

Race 4 Life - A Bit of Running!

A number of us are doing the Race4Life this year and Louise Preston is organising a Club entry for the race at Tatton Park on Sunday 20th June, 2010. At this Race you can choose to do the 5K or 10K, cost is £12.99 (chq or cash to Louise Preston) and you need to email Louise with details of your home address, email address, emergency tel. Number so she can complete the Group entry. If you are aged under 16 you cannot enter the race individually so this is an opportunity to enter as you can as part of a Group.
Just think this as an out of season fitness exercise!!

Club Social Event

The March ten pin bowling was well attended and we found that Julie Griffiths is a closet bowler with some outstanding strikes on the alley!! The next event is going to watch Sale Sharks on Friday 23rd April at Stockport County's ground. If you are interested in this and haven't let Angela know.
